My profile

My name is Yousef Al Mahmood I was born in March 4th 1988. My childhood life was happy I liked school allot. I live in a large family which was from 8 members. Like any boy I liked my father and he always used to take me out with him to meet his friends and to learn how to talk and react with people. The first day for me in school was a really exiting because I saw many boys who were in my age and soon they all where friends. My father that days liked to arrange trips for us to take us out of Abu Dhabi, but now has became old so now we not go out. I like going to Al Ain we used to go there every weekend to visit my uncle.

My life as a teenager was a little bit naughty. I always used to make trouble and like to fight with the boys. And in this age my father started to become closer to me and became more as a friend and I stared to like talking to him. As a teenager I was learning from everything and mostly from my mistakes and where I was been grounded.

I like traveling in summer, last summer I went to Germany and had a lot of fun their. I met my friends their, who were school friends. I have visited many places in my life like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain. I learn a lot of things in travailing like how to manage my money and see new things and places.

one planet living

· Zero carbon:
o The climate is changing because of human’s activity which raise the level of CO2. Zero carbon means no carbon produce.

· Zero waste:

o We must protect our valuable resources by having no discarded products.

· Sustainable transport:

o Transporting either by plane or cars affects the climate a lot and causes other problems like noise pollution. So we need cleaner way to transport.

· Local and sustainable materials:

o The way we use our materials in construction or manufacturing make the problem bigger.

· Local sustainable food:

o Producing industrial agriculture and transfer it make a lot of pollution.

· Sustainable water:

o Water is not available nowadays for everyone, that because of pollution.

· Natural habitats and wildlife:

o We are losing different kinds of animals and plants and all that because of development and overuse of natural resources.

· Culture and heritage:

o In many countries the local heritage is being lost, because of globalisation and the results of that is loss the local identity.

· Equity and fair trade:

o Many people in developing countries can’t have their basic needs while same people in industrialised countries live in poverty.

· Health and happiness:

· Wealth and greater health are rising and that make us think about contentment.

Cool Cities

The world in now facing a big problem with is global warming; countries must realize this problem and take it seriously. Reducing the pollution must not only start by each person using to energy, even tough it’s a good start for solving the problem. We have already passed this step, and we are looking ahead for a more wide vision by making a city that produces zero pollution which is called a cool city.

What should be done in Abu Dhabi to make people more aware of the situation?

Their must be some solutions that must be done in Abu Dhabi to show people living here about global warming which is caused by pollution that we make. Even though Abu Dhabi is a small country compared to other countries but still it is one of the largest countries that make pollution. So the government must aware citizens about the problem and also shows ways to reduce it. Making a movie about the problem was a big step made by Al Gore he showed us how hard things can get if we didn’t do anything so; in my opinion media will be a good chouse for a start. Conferences might be also a good idea because, it is always better to watch some one talking in front of you other than talking behind a camera. So I guess ideas are available but we only need to start making them real.
